How Much Should a Video Actually Cost for a Small Business?
(What It Costs, What Changes the Price, and How to Know What Fits Your Budget)

It's the question every business owner asks before they've asked anything else: how much is this video going to cost? Most video producers, us included, will tell you honestly that it depends. That's a true answer, but it isn't a useful one if you're trying to plan your marketing or training budget. So here's the more useful version: What actually drives the price, and roughly what should you expect at different levels?
What actually changes the price
Three things move the number more than anything else:
Time on location. A single message, one subject, one location shoot is a fraction of the cost of a multi-day shoot across several locations with a crew. Every time the crew has to move video gear to a new place, the cost goes higher.
Deliverables. One finished video is one price. A video plus three social cutdowns, captions, and multiple aspect ratios is a different scope entirely.
Pre-production planning. An interview may need a conversation and a shoot day. A campaign with scripting, casting, location scouting, and multiple stakeholders needs real pre-production time before a camera ever turns on.
Roughly what to expect
DIY with a phone costs little more than your time, but it shows up in the finished product. Inconsistent audio, shaky framing, and no real message structure can do more harm than good.
A freelance editor working from footage you shot on your own might run a few hundred dollars.
A professionally shot, single-message video with one subject, one location, shot in one day typically lands in the low-to-mid hundreds up to a thousand dollars, depending on the producer and quality.
A full campaign with multiple deliverables, several shoot days, real pre-production and strategy is a different investment entirely, often a few thousand dollars and up, because it's genuinely a different amount of expertise and work.
Neither end is wrong. The right choice depends on what you actually need your video to do, and how complicated the real answer is.
If your project is the simple kind
Most small businesses don't need a campaign. They need one clear, professional video — something for the website, the Google Business Profile, and social — produced by someone who knows how to make it look and sound like a real business made it. That's exactly why we built the Business Spotlight Package: a flat-rate, fixed-scope video package for businesses with one message, one subject, and one location. If that sounds like your project, reach out and we'll talk through whether it's the right fit. And if it turns out you need something (or even someone) different, we'll tell you honestly what we think makes the most sense.
